When it comes to feeling fit and full of health, most people would agree that they have plenty of room for improvement. Every new year, people worldwide vow to make the next 12 months the time that they focus on their fitness and get into the shape of their lives. Unfortunately, these resolutions rarely last long and are often forgotten before January has even ended. But, you don’t need to wait until the next new year before you start working on your fitness. You have the power to improve your fitness and health at any time, and when better than right now? The weight of a new year’s resolution can feel like a lot of pressure and jeopardize your success. So, instead, it is often better to think about the best methods to improve your fitness and then to get started, regardless of whether it is January 1st. If you feel ready to be proactive and take charge of your fitness, you could try some of these ideas to help you get started and continue working on your fitness throughout the coming year and beyond:

  1. Set Yourself a Target

Whether you want to lose weight, walk more steps, or run faster, you probably already have an idea of what you want to gain from improving your fitness. But to stay motivated and achieve meaningful results, it is helpful to make your targets pretty specific. It is much easier to keep tracking your progress when you have set a target to aim for. Your target could be to lose 15 pounds, walk 10,000 steps per day, or reduce your 10k run time. Having a specific target in mind when you start makes it so much easier for you to see how you are doing and celebrate your success at milestones along the way.

  1. Find an Exercise Buddy

Exercising alone can get a little boring at times, and you may start to see your enthusiasm drop. If this happens, you need to find a way to keep going. Otherwise, you could end up letting your hard work go to waste. Finding a friend, family member, or work colleague that also wants to improve their fitness can be a great help, especially if they agree to become your exercise buddy. When you commit to meeting up with someone else for your exercise, it makes you far more likely to turn up and give it your all. Exercising together enables you to motivate and encourage each other, making it much easier to keep ongoing.

  1. Hire a Personal Trainer

If you have an exercise buddy for your regular sessions but need an extra boost to take your workouts further, a personal trainer may be just the person for the job. Hiring a personal trainer encourages you to commit even further to your fitness goals and helps you to receive results faster, thanks to your trainer’s guidance.

Paying a personal trainer means you are far less likely to back out of training sessions and are also likely to work harder. Your trainer will be able to tailor an exercise plan to meet your specific fitness goals and keep you motivated while you work towards achieving them.

  1. Join a Sports Team

There is nothing like the feeling of being part of a winning team and seeing all of your efforts in training come together and pay off. Joining a sports team brings a sense of belonging and the chance to meet new friends and improve your fitness. Team sports are particularly good for fitness, as they often involve weekly training sessions as well as regular matches, which means a lot of extra activity each week.

If you have played for a team before, you may be hoping to get back into your old sport and rejoin your previous team. However, there are loads of different sports to try, so you could consider having a go at one of these. You could even decide to start your own team and play a sport of your choice. One increasingly popular sport is pickleball, so if you want to start a team, you are sure to find many people wanting to join. Once you have your squad, you just need to find the perfect pickleball apparel for your team to proudly wear when they compete.

  1. Sign up for the Gym

Signing up and becoming a member of a gym may seem like the most obvious way to improve your fitness. But, it is not simply joining a gym that helps; you need to find the right gym to best suit your needs. To really improve your fitness and to get the most from your workouts, you need a gym that offers equipment and classes that you enjoy. So many people take out gym memberships and then leave them unused because they have fallen out of love with working out at the gym. To prevent this from happening, it is crucial to choose the right gym in the first place with the equipment you need to reach your fitness goals. Don’t forget to check out the other facilities at the gym too, aside from the equipment. If you prefer to change up your workouts to keep them varied and want to work out many different aspects of your fitness, you need a gym offering multiple facilities. Choosing a fitness center that offers sports courts and a pool, as well as gym equipment, will help you to get plenty of use from your gym membership while working on every aspect of your fitness.

  1. Increase Your Everyday Activity

As well as getting active with sports and the gym, don’t forget that your everyday activities can also help. Walking more rather than driving and taking the stairs instead of the elevator are just two of the ways that you can increase your fitness levels in your everyday life. Looking for opportunities to be more active every day should help you develop some genius ways to exercise more while carrying out your daily activities.

  1. Try New Activities

There is nothing like trying a new activity and discovering that you love it to make you feel full of enthusiasm. If you have a sport you have always wanted to try but never gotten around to doing it, now could be the chance to give it a go. Whether you fancy an adrenaline-filled sport such as abseiling or you want to try your hand at fencing, there are so many different activities available to consider trying. Once you have given a new activity a try, you may find that it is your new favorite sport and something you will do regularly from now on.

  1. Get Active in Your Leisure Time

If your spare time is usually spent on the couch, then you could be missing out on loads of precious opportunities to improve your fitness. Spending your evenings and weekends chilling on the sofa may be something you do out of habit, but that doesn’t mean you cannot try something new. Reducing some of the time you usually spend chilling in front of the TV and using this to get active is an excellent way to improve your fitness. You could choose to go hiking or mountain biking on the weekends, or even simply for a walk in the fresh air a couple of evenings per week. Whatever you decide to do is sure to have a positive impact on your fitness levels and help you feel that you are getting the most out of life.
