First communion season is fast approaching, so January is a great time to start shopping for your child's dress.

Here are a few tips to make shopping for first holy communion dresses a breeze:

1. Choosing the Proper Dress

A first communion dress should be below the knee, and white.  There may be churches that have exceptions to the rule, but you must check with them first if you are even thinking of buying a dress in anything other than white.

2. Fitting

Getting the right fit for the first communion dress (or any dress, for that matter) is very important.  The last thing you want is for your child to be uncomfortable in an ill-fitting dress on such a special day.  Make sure you take all the necessary measurements before ordering.  Take and re-take - no guessing!

3. Getting Your Daughter's Input

The first communion is a very special and important day for your child.  Include your daughter in the decision-making process, and find out what styles and fabrics she likes. This can be a great opportunity to let her start making her own decisions (as long as the dress is proper, of course).

4. Shopping Early

If you are having your dress made with custom measurements, you need to make sure you allow plenty of time.  December or January is a great time to start shopping around.  Pick a date to start shopping, and mark it down on your calendar!

  12. These dresses are so cute! I love that you recommend that you ask your daughter for their opinion. Many Moms do not care what their daughters want in a dress, but I agree that it is very important.

  13. It's always a good idea to get your daughter's input on something like this. Rest assured if you don't that she will not be the little lady that you are hoping for on the day of her first communion. That would be real difficult to deal with.
