Yard sale fail

I spent the entire evening yesterday cleaning up my closet (which is actually a bedroom).
I ended up with a double-sided floor rack full of clothes I no longer want.
There were things I have literally not worn in years, so I started thinking it really is crazy to keep them.
I get a lot of compliments on my huge, and pretty wardrobe but I think even I have finally had enough.
I decided to have a yard sale today, of all days.
Wind was, and still is blowing so hard I was running around, trying to keep things where they were supposed to be.
After my $100.00 floor rack fell over and bent, I decided to call it quits.
Not worth losing my rack for $4.00 profit!
I may try again tomorrow but the weather does not seem to be in my favor.

The 405

I was booked for webseries in Los Angeles the day after Thanksgiving.
Vaughan and I had been out of town for the holiday.
We were headed to my job which was in Venice, when our car ran out of gas on interstate 405!
A couple of motorists who stopped behind us helped Vaughan and I to push the car to the far-right lane.
We had no way to get off the highway because there was a cement barrier on our right.
We called 911 and and were told to stay in the car with out seat belts on.
After a while we saw that cars were flying up so fast, it was likely we would be hit in we stayed inside and did nothing.
I decided to get out and stand  in the door to wave people to the other lanes.
Vaughan then got out and tried standing on the cement barrier.
I got a red skirt from my luggage in my truck, hopped up on the trunk, and started waving it to draw attention to the fact we were a STALLED vehicle.
Vaughan started walking and ended up a hundred yards or more away to wave at traffic.
He said everyone that passed him got over, but what he did not see was they got back into my lane and at least three came flying up and I believe were close to hitting me.
This was one of my worst nightmares come true.
People were passing by and taking pictures with their smart phones, smiling, waving, and blowing kisses...
My respect for humanity has dropped a few more notches...

People, you do know what they say about karma, right?

It took the police about 45 minutes to arrive.
They used their car to push ours very fast for several miles until we reached an off-ramp.
We were pushed into a Park & Ride lot, and that's when my driver's side tail-light was torn partially out.
An officer told me I was not supposed to stand on the car as I had, and that when people see that they think the person is crazy or suicidal.
If I saw someone standing on a stalled car on the highway, I would NOT assume they were CRAZY!
I would assume they had broken down, and were trying to keep STUPID people from hitting them!
What is wrong with people!?!

In my case, I think I did the best I could, and if I had stayed in the car, I might have been injured or killed.
People just don't pay attention enough to count on them to see your emergency lights in daylight.
And I am betting the ones that got close, even when I was on the trunk, were too busy texting to see that far ahead.
They were breaking the law themselves, using a cell phone to snap pictures while flying down the highway at 60 + miles per hour!
I had called my parents, who were 65 miles or more away, and amazingly, they arrived not long after the police left us!

They brought us a can of gas.
We convoyed to the nearest gas station, and headed for my job in Venice.
I actually made in there just about 5 minutes late!!!
I had a line to say, and was done in under an hour.

My parents insisted on staying overnight in their car to take me to work the next monring.
At about 1am, my mother called to say she was having a gallbladder attack and was going the the emergency room.
Thankfully, see was treated and will hopefully be scheduled for surgery soon.
She's been waiting months since the initial diagnosis because she has no insurance, and no government agency has seemed to be able to help her.

8x10 camera

Yesterday, I had the honor of modeling for a wonderful photographer who uses vintage, 8x10 cameras.
We shot in several locations around downtown, Los Angeles.
The weather was beautiful!
I have modeled for, I believe, just one photographer that uses film, let alone something as unique as an 8x10 camera!
I was excited as soon as I was asked to do the shoot.
You can learn more about the cameras here.

This is certainly up there as one of my most unique shoots.

REAL Samba dancer

Below is the communication between myself and someone saying they are interested in hiring me as a dancer for their birthday party.
A perfect example of why I hate dealing with people, sometimes.
Apparently, you can't be a real samba dancer unless you are FROM Brazil...

Are you available this coming saturday for a performance at my bda party?? I live up sunset plaza drive and am looking fora  samba dancer.
Let me know.

I'll be spending the day with my husband and parents.
We'll be having a thanksgiving lunch with Cornish game hens, pecan pie tarts, salad and stuffing!
Wishing everyone a happy day!
Remember the true meaning of the day, too.

I'll be back to work tomorrow!

My dad's birthday gift

I was thinking about what to get my father for his birthday this month and decided against dinner out.
I know my dad has been wanting to do some indie films and we'd been talking which cameras would be best for our price range.
I decided to go with the CX190.
We got it in the mail yesterday and are VERY happy with it!
We took some test footage and it actually makes it look like there's more light than there is, which is great for low light situations.
I've worked with a few people the past year and had heard good things about Sony camcorders, so I knew it was something I wanted to try.
Know that I know how well it works, I plan on getting one for myself.
Looking forward to posting new dance videos among other things :D

Belly dance and modeling

Video of me modeling and belly dancing at the Bargain Camera Show in Pasadena, California a few weeks ago.
If the performance looks a little odd it's because I'm more focused on what would look good in a photo, not video.

Brains, and beauty

Libertad's brain.

Wednesday, I just finished up my part in a study conducted at UCLA and part of the study included having a scan in an MRI machine.
It was really cool to see this, also, kind of gross!
My most unique "modeling" job ever!!!

National Geographic

Spent the day yesterday working on the set of a National Geographic television show that was filming on downtown Los Angeles.
My husband, Vaughan worked with me, and we spent the day "shopping" on set.
It was a lot of fun....until I had looked at everything in the "store" ten times over.
I started getting so tired I was literally falling around!
Vaughan said I was starting to sound like I  was drunk.
I don't usually get that tired, it must have been because I was awake before 5am that morning.
I think that's just wrong to get up that early!

My bangs are still growing in :(
I have not worked for the National Geographic channel since I was living on the east coast.

One thing that was an issue throughout the day was having access to the restrooms.  They always seemed to be looked.
One lucky time when I found one open, I also found this sign posted about the toilet...I couldn't resist snapping a photo.

Our holding area was on the fourth floor of the building, and we could see the the roof below.
I saw what I thought looked like a Barbie doll being used to hold up PVC pipe.
How did Barbie end up naked, and holding up PVC on the rooftop?

Can you spot her?
