Abilene, Kansas

This photo was taken outside our room at the Budget Lodge Inn in Abilene, Kansas.  We decided to take a different route on our way back to California so I could swing by Abilene, because I lived there for six months as a child.  My family and I actually lived in this very motel, but it was under different management and a different name then.  It was nice to see Abilene again after so many years!

Abilene is the hometown of Dwight D. Eisenhower, and the Dwight D. Eisenhower Presidential Library and Museum is located in Abilene.  Ike's Place Bar & Grill is a restaurant that is located in the same parking lot at the Budget Lodge Inn.  After we checked in for the night, Vaughan and I had a late lunch there.  I chose the Grilled Steak Skewers, Vaughan had the cheeseburger.  It was a pleasant dining experience and the food was good.

I wish we'd had more time to check out the rest of the city, but we checked out after one night and headed west.
